“Join us on Discord!”

Even if you’ve been into the NFTs discussion for a short amount of time, you might have gotten familiar with this phrase by now.

And I don’t know about you but the first time I heard the word “Discord”, it did not occur to me right away that it’s actually an app and not a disagreement or argument.

I wonder why they named it like that, though. Well, that’s probably a topic for another day.

For now, I would like to talk to you about the Discord app and how you can set it up so you can join a community or manage your own NFT group.

What is a Discord Community?

Discord is a voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP), which also includes a text/video chat app (IM) and a digital distribution platform.

It was originally built for gamers but has since become a general use for many different types of communities, NFT is an example.

In short, Discord is an app where tech-savvy people can talk and geek over technology — much like the NFTs and cryptocurrency.

It works much like Slack where you can add different channels for different topic discussions so the conversation does not get too crowded.

Discord members can participate in all active voice and video chats, send DMs and take part in communities, also known as “servers”, on the platform. Users can also start their communities, (or servers) and invite other users to join in.

On their server, admins can set up dedicated channels to specific topics for each user to go directly on their preferred discussion. Users can also share videos, images, internet links, music, and more.

What is an NFT Discord Community?

There are a lot of things you can do on Discord.

With both mobile and desktop apps free & secure to download, both private and public servers can be created with so many possibilities and limitless servers you can run.

NFT communities are usually found everywhere on social networking platforms but the bulk of them are on Discord.

Some people are actively collecting, trading, selling, and engaging in conversations about Non-Fungible Tokens or NFTs. Members of an NFT Discord community comprise crypto artists (video game artists, graphic designers, etc), design and creative professionals, global airdroppers, crypto developers and investors, and NFT giveaway seekers (freebie hunters).

How to Build an NFT Community on Discord

Discord has more than 140 million monthly active users as of the end of 2020, according to the Discord company.

The most popular communities on Discord are YouTubers, podcasters, live streamers, and other online influencers who use the platform to build their internet communities.

You too can tap into this niche community to promote and grow your NFT project. But first, you have to build an NFT Discord community.

Initially, you’ll want to set up your server and brand it so that you’re ready to welcome new members.

After all, this is set and done, the real work begins: building a thriving community that people want to be part of.

1. Keep everyone excited to be part of your community

With the NFT Discord community, it is critical to give community members plenty of reasons to stick around.

Ask yourself: how can we bring excitement to this community and make them feel part of this project?

For example, consider having feedback sessions where community members can share their opinions regarding the project. Events like this help your community build more engagements and intimate connections with your team/project/events.

2. Interact with community members often

Server admins and community managers need to interact regularly. This not only shows the community that you have invested in them but shows that you’re along with them on this journey.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you should post 24/7.

However, by posting frequently, running an event, or even offering regular updates regarding any project or events, you’ll help make everyone feel like they’re part of a great NFT Discord community.

3. Have a set of rules to abide by

For an NFT focused community, it is important to craft a set of rules accordingly.

By default, Discord will allow you to ‘turn on’ rules when you enable ‘Community’ on your server. Nonetheless, having your rules posted in a public channel can help alleviate any possible confusion or misunderstanding.

This also gives your team a good set of tools to moderate efficiently and transparently.

4. Conduct regular AMAs

Holding events such as AMAs (ask me anything) or competitions helps foster a community that wants to collaborate and interact with each other.

You can conduct live audio AMAs in the form of Stage Channels. Stage channels allow you to share a focused conversation with select individuals to an audience of listeners.

In addition, NFT Discord community members who want to join in the conversation can even ask to be allowed on the stage.

With regards to questions for AMAs, we recommend setting up a form that allows members to submit questions beforehand. With the help of a community manager, you can select the best questions to be asked during the session.

Why a Discord Community Manager Matter

As your NFT Discord community starts getting bigger and bigger, it can get tiresome to properly moderate the server. We recommend hiring a community manager for Discord.

To help maintain a safe environment for everyone, it’s best to have a reliable Discord community manager to help assist in keeping the server running smoothly.

It also helps to hire an experienced Discord community manager with a deep understanding of Discord and how it works.

The ideal candidate should also have experience with community building and managing communities. This helps everyone know that not only is your community closely connected, but you have experienced people to help if needed.

Why Are NFT Enthusiasts Opting For Discord?

Discord is a community-oriented text/voice/video chat app with mostly private, invite-only spaces called servers. It is this special emphasis on communities with shared interests that make them stand out from other platforms.

Unlike Facebook where the algorithm determines what you see or don’t see, Discord lets the power rest in your hands. Instead of scrolling through a manipulative news feed, you only get to participate in things that genuinely interest you.

Most NFT projects put a lot of effort into building a strong and robust community around their initiatives. Thus, NFT holders get access to special community rewards and hold governance rights within the protocol.

It is only natural that these NFT projects seek out Discord to interact and communicate with their community. These NFT Discord servers provide ample opportunities for like-minded people to collaborate and exchange ideas about NFTs and more.

I highly encourage you to join NFT communities as you are exploring NFTs. It makes it less lonely and more fun to explore this complex world of NFTs if you have people who are in your tribe, supporting and encouraging you.

And with this, I invite you to join our Discord community — FreedomwithNFTs. That is if you want.

In our community, we discuss more about NFTs from the bottom and our goal is to bring you onboard the NFT ship and sail you through the step by steps of learning NFTs and understanding how it all works until you are able to launch your own NFT projects.

Our goal is to guide every person to a space where they can do what they love, create their own projects, and earn extra income through the NFT space.
