The Different Types Of NFTs

Non-fungible tokens or NFTs are one of the outstanding trending topics in 2021.

As mentioned in our What is an NFT article, NFTs can represent anything that is unique and any original or copy of work. If it is combined with blockchain’s immutable core, it becomes a perfect fit to represent limited or sole ownership.

But is there a limit to what kind of data and information can be added to the blockchain and become an NFT? Or is it only applicable to some form of art or coins?

Let’s discuss some of the most common types of non-fungible tokens that are currently in the NFT space.

Different types of NFTs

Let me share with you some of the most common forms of NFTs known in the metaverse as of writing.

Digital Arts

NFT Art consists of digital artworks such as images, videos, music, memes, or GIFs. Let’s take a closer look at 21 examples of NFTs and what makes them unique.

Collectible Items

Collectibles are items of interest to collectors and anything that you can deem collectible like Event Tickets and Trading Cards. Crypto collectibles are non-fungible tokens and can be minted on NFT marketplaces.

POAP

POAP (pronounced poh-ap) is an acronym for Proof of Attendance Protocol. These NFT badges are given out to prove attendance of an event, whether it took place virtually or in the real world. Each badge is unique, meaning that the only way to get a certain POAP is to be at the event.

Games

The common types of non-fungible tokens in the domain of gaming are primarily focused on in-game items. Video games or digital objects or called in-game samples are skins, characters, changing value, and other items.

NFT Game Sample:

Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity borrows heavily from the Pokemon game series and adds its own blockchain twist to give the finished product an even more exciting feel. In this Ethereum-based game, players breed and collect NFT-based digital pets called Axies for the core purpose of battling other players.

Metaverse

The NFT market is sort of the wild west of internet commerce; it consists of pieces of virtual worlds. A virtual universe that lets users replicate their experiences from the real or physical world on a virtual platform.

Domain Names

Domains have never been more valuable or important than they were in 2021. A premium NFT domain non-fungible token (NFT) to build a decentralized web. Decentralized Domain Name Services such as Unstoppable Domains and the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) are the top examples of domain name NFTs.
